Serving on the board is an opportunity to help future generations of Pirates successfully navigate their academic, professional, and personal journeys while strengthening the legacy of Black excellence at ECU. Acknowledgement of Board Expectations

Board Members serve two (2) consecutive years with the opportunity to renew for a max of three (3) terms given good board standing. To remain in good standing, a board member must: 

  • Accept and abide by the mission of the Black Alumni Network

  • Attend and participate in at least three Board meetings annually; attend any special meetings that are called by the Board Chair/President (with adequate notice) 

  • Actively participate on at least one Board Committee 

  • Prepare for meetings and discussions by reviewing agendas and all supporting materials in advance 

  • Support the Black Alumni Network fundraising campaigns 

  • Complete self-evaluations and other surveys when requested 

  • Provide ongoing feedback to enhance the Black alumni experience 

  • Be a knowledgeable ambassador of our alma mater.


Please note: Submission of an application to join the Board of Directors does not guarantee appointment or election to the board. All applications will be reviewed in accordance with the organization’s governance policies, needs, and selection process, and final decisions are made at the sole discretion of the boards executive committee.
